Terms of Use

These conditions govern use of New Hanover County Criminal History. Opening a page, reading its material, or submitting a search means that you accept them. If any condition is unacceptable, stop using the site.

NO FCRA USE. This privately operated site has no connection to a local, North Carolina, or federal government office. It and its advertising partners do not provide products for credit, employment, tenant, insurance, or any other Fair Credit Reporting Act purpose. The site only points readers toward New Hanover County criminal-record resources. It is neither a private investigation service nor a consumer reporting agency.

1. What This Website Is

This is a private reference site, independent of every government agency. It does not store official records, retrieve a person's file, perform an official check, or submit legal paperwork.

Its function is to identify custodians such as the New Hanover County sheriff, the Clerk of Superior Court, the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, and the North Carolina Sex Offender and Public Protection Registry. Some pages also connect to outside research tools.

2. Rules for Using This Site

By using the site, you agree not to:

  • Use site content for any FCRA-regulated decision
  • Stalk, threaten, intimidate, or harass another person
  • Violate a federal, North Carolina, or local law
  • Attempt unauthorized entry into any system or account
  • Deploy a bot, scraper, or automated collection tool against the pages
  • Interfere with performance or another visitor's access

3. No Harassment, Stalking, or Discrimination

No one may use information found here or through a linked tool to stalk, harass, threaten, intimidate, or discriminate. This restriction is especially important for the North Carolina Sex Offender and Public Protection Registry. North Carolina warns that threats, intimidation, stalking, harassment, and other criminal misuse may be prosecuted. Registry information supports lawful public-safety awareness. It does not authorize vigilantism or any FCRA-regulated use.

4. We Are Not a Consumer Reporting Agency

We are not a consumer reporting agency under the FCRA and do not create consumer reports, credit files, or official background checks. Advertising partners are not presented as providers for regulated screening. Data from this site or a linked tool cannot be used to:

  • Make an employment decision
  • Evaluate a renter or housing applicant
  • Set insurance eligibility or terms
  • Assess credit or lending eligibility
  • Make any other decision regulated by the FCRA

Anyone needing a legally compliant report for a regulated purpose must use an authorized official process or an FCRA-compliant provider.

5. No Legal Advice

Site content is not legal advice. General explanations of New Hanover County records cannot determine how a charge, warrant, conviction, or expunction law affects one person. Ask a licensed North Carolina attorney for advice.

6. No Warranties

All content and functions are supplied "as is." No promise is made that:

  • Outside search results are complete or correctly matched
  • Every fact remains accurate, complete, and current
  • Pages contain no bug, error, or security weakness
  • Access will always be available without interruption

New Hanover County records change when courts file, dismiss, amend, restrict, or expunge entries. Information can therefore lag. Only the originating court, sheriff, SBI, or other custodian can make an official statement about its record.

7. Third-Party Services and Links

A link may lead to a sheriff, court portal, state agency, legal-aid organization, or outside service. We do not control that destination's content, uptime, fees, privacy practices, or terms. Review its rules before using it.

8. Intellectual Property

Text, code, logos, and graphics belong to New Hanover County Criminal History or its content partners. Written permission is required before copying, distributing, modifying, or creating derivative material.

9. Limits on Our Liability

To the broadest extent allowed by law, we disclaim liability for harm arising from use of the site, its information, or a linked service.

10. Indemnification

You agree to protect and hold us harmless from claims or demands caused by your site use or breach of these terms, including related legal fees and costs.

11. Governing Law

North Carolina law governs these terms. A dispute tied to use of this site must be brought in a court located in North Carolina.

12. Changes to These Terms

These terms may be revised at any time. A revision takes effect once the new text is posted here.

13. Cutting Off Access

Access may be restricted or ended at any time, for any reason, without advance notice.

14. Severability

If one term is held invalid or unenforceable, the remaining terms continue. The affected provision will be narrowed only enough to make it enforceable.

15. Questions

Questions about these conditions may be directed through the Contact page.
